The huge Dog Star, Sirius A, is the brightest star
in our Earth night sky. In the lower left, the tiny white dot
is its solar companion, the white dwarf Sirius B. The two stars revolve
around each other every 50 years. Sirius A is only 8.6 light-years
from Earth and is the fifth closest star system known.
